Meteor is a member of the UK Structured Products Association (UKSPA). The Association works with IFAs, the regulator and other trade bodies to help drive the development of the structured products market.
The UK Structured Products Association provides a voice for the retail structured products industry with the purpose of educating the investment community. The role of UKSPA is to engage with the media and communicate useful and educational information about structured products to the wider community. It does not promote individual firms, products or structured products professionals.
UKSPA is an organisation established by leading companies that create and distribute structured products to the UK financial services market with the aim of providing a useful and responsive source of information, education and comment on structured products by promoting their contribution to effective financial planning. The creation of UKSPA is a unified response from the members who believe that whilst structured products form an increasingly integral part of financial planning for investors, they are sometimes misunderstood and misrepresented, and that any lack of understanding can and should be addressed. The principal activities of the Association are: to provide a representative voice in the media for the industry; and to produce research to demonstrate structured products value by promoting greater understanding of the investments. It is not a commercial organisation and education and research are its core activities.
Structured products are used by many investors to achieve defined returns and a certain level of protection against market falls. There is a range of different products available to UK retail investors, and no standard naming convention. Often, the same type of product will be marketed under a different name by different providers. UKSPA has therefore created a series of Product Codes, broken down into four main sectors: Protected, Non-Protected, Growth and Income. These codes are intended as a reference guide, to help advisers and investors understand what the different types of product are and their key features. These codes will appear on our product brochures.
